Irish Soda Bread

This is a simple yet super delicious Irish Soda Bread recipe that you can bake and enjoy with your friends and loved ones. Share the luck of the Irish with yummy Irish Soda Bread!


3 Cups Flour

1Teaspoon Baking Soda

1Teaspoon Baking Powder

½ Teaspoon Salt

¼ Cup Sugar

1Cup Raisins

1 Egg

1 ½ Cups Buttermilk

½ Stick Butter


First, put raisins in container. Add hot water, stir, and let soak for 15 minutes. Use Strainer to drain water out of raisins.

Heat oven to 325 degrees and grease an 8” or 9” cake pan and set aside.

Sift all dry ingredients and stir using a wooden spoon or large fork.

Cut butter into small pieces and add to flour mixture. Break up with fork or fingertips until crumbly.

Add raisins and stir.

Beat egg in container with fork, add buttermilk, and stir.

Poke holes in flour mixture and add buttermilk/egg mixture.

Stir well until batter sticks together.

Sprinkle with flour, kneed, shape and flatten into pan. Cut cross into bread.

Bake 1 hour. Cool pan on rack about 10 minutes and then remove from pan. Place back on rack to finish cooling.

Store in plastic bag till ready to serve.
